Bouchon Bakery, Columbus Circle, New York

Bouchon Bakery is located in Columbus Circle and is owned by Thomas Keller, who owns French Laundry in Napa. There were so many items look amazing including the endive and bibb lettuce salad, grilled cheese and tomato soup, french bread, pastries, cookies, macarons and TKO’s (Thomas Keller Oreos).

Although I was able to fill a box full of treats, I will have to return for the lunch and savory items. (I returned more recently and my friend had the quiche, I had the tomato soup and grilled cheese and we shared a peach tart. The tart was nothing special).

A sampling of the pastries, muffins, sugar pies.

TKO, macarons and cupcakes.

Here is the goodie box with a sugar pie, caramel and peanut butter & jelly macaron and TKO (Thomas Keller Oreo).

This was one of the best macarons I have ever eaten. Next time, I would buy a box of just caramel flavored ones. The peanut butter and jelly macaron is a great childlike combination. The Chocolate sable dough and white chocolate ganache is unreal. If children had this adult version of the Oreo, all the time they would be spoiled.

This milk chocolate eclair, had a sweet chocolate icing on top of the éclair and also on the inside.

Momofuku Milk Bar, Midtown, NYC

Momofuku Milk, located in Midtown is a fabulously kitschy bakery. The soft serve, cookies, cakes and cookies are unique and childlike. David Chang’s empire has expanded due to Christine Tosi, pastry chef and part owner of the bakery. Christine will be coming out with a Milk Bar recipe book soon.

The neon light “Milk” is right above the soft serve machine.

Birthday cake, an upscale version of the boxed Funfetti or Rainbow Chip with rainbow cake crumble, sprinkles and vanilla frosting.

The famous crack pie, a buttery, brown sugary cookie filling with oat crust.

Compost, cornflake, chocolate chocolate, blueberry and cream and peanut butter cookies.

I tasted the cereal milk and salted pistachio. Of the two flavors, get the salted pistachio. The salted pistachio was an unreal combo. The fresh pistachio combined with a fleur de sel caramel-like flavor was delicious. The cereal milk flavor is comparable to malted milk.

I loved the compost cookie (pretzel, potato chips, coffee, oats, butterscotch, and chocolate chips). In addition, I really liked cornflake, marshmallow chocolate chip cookie.

The birthday cake truffle is a tiny version of the birthday cake with rainbow cake and vanilla frosting.

Mela, South End, Boston

I have been meaning to go to Mela for quite some time. The whimsical lighting and copper walls make the restaurant much more posh relative to other Indian restaurants. We enjoyed the non-vegetarian multi-course meal for two for $45 and would definitely return again. The menu also had organic chicken dishes, which was a separate menu.

Mulligatawny Soup, spicy hot soup with lentils and spices ($4)

The meat samosas were served with a fresh salad served with a yogurt and mustard seed dressing.

Palak Paneer, spinach cooked with paneer was smooth and light.

Chicken tikka masala, diced boneless, tandoori style chicken cooked in rich tomato cream sauce with the naan.

Tandoori Mixed Grill, sizzling tandoori chicken, lamb boti kebab

Gulab Jamun, deep fried wheat and milk ball, soaked in syrup

The Kheer rice pudding was a must get again.

BBQ Bob’s, Locke Mills, ME

After a solid day of skiing, nothing hits the spot better than Southern BBQ. Next to one of the largest wooden rolling pins is BBQ Bob’s Real Pit BBQ truck and its a must try. We tried Heat Wave Chilli. It was thick, spicy and salty, filled with beans, pulled pork, sausage.

The “Bodine”, a pile of tender pulled pork, beef brisket and hot links smother in BBQW beans, Bob’s honey mustard cole slaw and pickles. The coleslaw and brisket was by far the best part of the plate. The plate came with cornbread which was dry as if it sat in the warmer for too long.

Bonchon, Allston

Korean fried chicken = AMAZING. Bonchon is located near Blanchard’s and across from White Horse Tavern and serves some of the best chicken, specificlaly Korean’s fried chicken out there. (Dare we say better than Southern chicken?) We hate to perpetuate this common perception, but whenever we go to KFC and Popeye’s, there are adorable seasoned Asian couples eating fried chicken. We love our fried chicken!

There is a side dish of coleslaw that cuts the spice of the chicken. Bonchon was a  great experience and I wish I took some soy garlic chicken wings home. Our waiter was the most pleasant, patient and thoughtful server.

The chicken itself is double fried with the choices of soy garlic, mild spicy, hot spicy and bbq sauces. Unfortunately, being so packed, the chicken strips were sold out. (This means another trip is warranted!)

This Bonchon also has sushi such as spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail , eel avocado and a unique hummus sushi.

The sweet hummus sushi is a mix of sweet potato tempura, hummus, cucumber with unagi sauce

The crispy philly maki is cream cheese, salmon, cucumber, avocado, lightly battered and deep fried. o. multi tobiko, scallion, red onion. with unagi sauce, sweet chili sauce

Pork buns (similar to Momofuku)

House Fried rice (the best I’ve ever eaten anywhere because of the balance of the flavors, vegetables and tender chicken)

Kushiyaki Combo A: bacon & scallop, chicken, chunks, scallion

Tiramisu mochi
