I tried out the The Dining Car when I went to the Boston Local Food Festival at Fort Point. This mobile truck can be found near Harvard, BU and the Boston Public Library. The two owners have backgrounds at Au Soleil Catering (of Sel De La Terre) and Anita Lo’s Anissa.
The menu had items such as a caprese salad, apple cake and iced jasmine tea. On other days there maybe on th menu a pulled pork sandwich, chicken avocado and wasabi sandwich, chili and cider donut muffins.
What really caught my eye on the menu was the listing of crispy cauliflower as dusted with cornflour and lightly fried until nutty and crisp. The cauliflower is served with a drizzle of curry aioli.
I ordered the fried cauliflower with spicy aioli for $4. Although another customer got my cauliflower order, a few minutes later I had mine in my hand. The crispy batter was well seasoned and I really liked the kick of the creamy curry aioli.
I don’t think you can really go wrong with fried anything, but this fried cauliflower was quite good. Not greasy, tasty and I ate the whole thing.
