The Mighty Cone‘s origins began because of the Austin City Limit Music Festival. The ACL’s organizers contacted Chef Jeff Blank, who was famous for making an encrusted trout. Jeff created a less expensive rendition of his encrusted dish with chicken and spawned the crunchy chicken cone.
Chef Blank made the the cones available year-round and The Mighty Cone neon sign has been a permanent fixture in the South Congress area since early 2009.
The Hot and Crunchy is so unique and absolutely delicious. The chicken was encrusted in sesame seeds, almonds, chili flakes, sea salt, sugar and corn flakes. The flavor combinations were unreal. The crispy, nutty exterior with the tender chicken and mango-jalapeno slaw and ancho sauce makes my mouth water.
Next time, we are definitely ordering another cone, the chili-dusted fries for $1.25, sliders and shakes.
