2012 BMH’s Favorites

In 2012, we were so fortunately to expereince some wonderful travel and food adventures. ISome of our favorite memories in Thailand include Elephant Nature Park, North of Chiang MaiWild Rose Yoga Studio and Sawasdee Guesthouse in Chiang Mai.

We loved trying out the never ending pasta bowl (it is not a myth) at Olive Garden and celebrating Aunt Mandy’s Happy 98th.

The best moules frites and escargots ever eaten was at Aux Armes de Bruxelles Rue des Bouchers, Brussels, Belgium. Herbavious, buttery and perfectly cookies.

Some of the best Greek food we have ever eaten was at Symeons, Yorkville, New York. Delicious kebabs, gyros and baklava.

One of the most opulent tea experiences was at Angelina in Paris. We loved the tea sandwiches and pastries.

In addition to the fried chicken with claw on, Strip T’s, Watertown served an amazing banh mi with tofu. So darn good.

We finally got Lil Sis to make a few guests posts. Truly a momentous occasion and we were stoked when she was interested in writing about two of her food experiences at Toro and Mistral. Guest Post: BMH’s Lil Sis: Toro, South End, Boston.

We have been crossing off 7×7 100 Things To Eat Before you Die and the deviled eggs at Park Tavern, North Beach, San Francisco was a favorite thus far, not to mention the other appetizers, burger and loved the ambiance.

We were really impressed by the design and space at Craftsman and Wolves, Mission District, San Francisco, as well as the cheddar, scallion, sausage and runny egg muffin The Rebel Within.

There is such thing as elevating street food or things that seem like they do not need fixing. Artisanal bubble tea is served at the pop up shop Boba Guys, Mission District, San Francisco. Go try it.

Ramen Underground, San Francisco has one of the coolest menu boards, not to mention solid ramen with the optionality to order extra noodles for broth.

Sightglass again? Yes. Can’t get enough of the ambiance, design and coffee proecss at Sightglass Coffee, SOMA, San Francisco.

How adorable are these crocheted ice cream cones in the window at Ici Ice Cream, Berkeley. The creative flavors are worth the trip to Berkeley.

Trattoria La Siciliana in Berkeley  serves the best mushroom ravioli ever eaten in our lives. THAT GOOD.

Finally, we are thrilled our buddy Hungry Games guest posted on BMH and now has an ever growing blog. Check out Hungry Games and the coolest post on Ninja Bread Men.

Cheers to the memories made over the year, the great conversations and amazing meals had. We are thrilled for the prospect of upcoming food adventures in the New Year! – The BMH sisters

On The Beach Restaurant, Phuket

We walked a quarter of a mile down the beach from Cloud 19 for a change of scenery and came across On the Beach Restaurant. The tiki lights and citronella smell kept the bugs away as we enjoyed mango smoothies, peanuts, cocktails and fried items and rice. It was a great night to enjoy the ocean sounds and see the sun set. We could even see a buddha on the mountaintop across the ocean line.

Huen Phen, Chiang Mai

Huen Phen is the go to place for solid Thai food revered by locals and tourists alike. In fact, most diners are locals. We enjoyed some crispy Thai wings and a tangy green bean salad with pork rinds. The chicken was so tender on the inside and lightly crisp on the outside. Definitely a favorite to mark off and return to.

Wild Rose Yoga Studio, Chiang Mai

Wild Rose Yoga Studio is the best yoga studio in Chiang Mai. The owner Rose is an ex-pat and a former biologist.

If I am to remember one thing I learned from this Earth Day yoga session was this most insightful mantra. Aum Bhurbhuva Suvaha Tat Sauitur Varenyam Bargo Devasya Dhimahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayate – May the almighty god illuminate our intellect to lead us along the righteous path.

Wat (Buddhist Temples), Chiang Mai

Visiting the Wats was one of the most spiritually fulfilling experiences. The serenity from meditation was uplifting.

Spending an afternoon at many of Chiang Mai’s many Buddhist temples was a indulgent time to reflect and appreciate life. We didn’t make it to all 300, but maybe next time.
