Hamburger Cupcakes

A talented baking soul mate previously made hamburger cupcakes for her husband’s birthday. Look at these creative cupcakes, sesame buns to boot. I will attempt these soon enough.

  • Vanilla Cake Mix
  • Vanilla Frosting or (red, green, and yellow pre-colored icing in a tube)
  • Food coloring- yellow, red, green
  • Sesame seeds
  • Cocktail toothpicks
  • 6 Large eggs
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil

Bake vanilla cupcakes according to directions on box. DO NOT use cupcake liners, but grease and flour the pan so they easily pop out.

Bake brownie cupcakes according to directions on box. When vanilla cupcakes are cool, cut them in half horizontal-wise with a serrated knife to create the “bun.” When brownies are cool, cut them in half horizontal-wise and save the cupcake top as the “meat.” You can discard the bottoms.

Use food coloring to mix a batch of red icing (“ketchup”) and another batch of yellow icing (“mustard”) and green “lettuce”. Lightly dampen burger “lids” with water and sprinkle with sesame seeds so they stick a little.

To create the burger layers…put red icing on the bottom bun, then add the “meat,” then add the yellow icing, then green icing lettuce on top, then add the lid. Finish by using a cocktail toothpick to keep it all together!

Brownies

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour cupcake pan (do not use liners). In a large saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat in 1/3 cup cocoa, 1/2 cup flour, salt, and baking powder. Spread batter into prepared cupcake pan. Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
