Elephant and Castle, Financial District, Boston

We have eaten at the Elephant and Castle in Boston’s Financial District over the years and the E&C serves a nice variety of beer on tap and good pub food. The chain serves bar fare and we have tried the spinach dip, nachos, onion rings, clam chowder and we the best app is the pretzel with Bass Ale mustard sauce.

This night I had a Blue Moon and our dining companion gave us a new tip, a Dark and Stormy with bourbon, instead of rum (less sugar). Brilliant.

The guys seemed really pleased with their Union Jack Beef Burger for $11. It was basted with Guinness BBQ sauce, then topped with bacon and jack cheese. I enjoy beer infused anything, including sauces. (Clery’s used to have an amazing beer cheese dip).

Our friend had the E&C Club Wrap for $11.50 with turkey, tomatoes, bacon, lettuce and mayo in a tomato tortilla.

Usually, I enjoy the steak and bleu cheese salad, but unfortunately not this time around. The grilled steak, topped on greens with crumbled blue cheese, sautéed mushrooms,  onions and tomatoes, with balsamic vinaigrette for $14.50 was a huge disappointment. The salad base was refreshing, however the steak itself had a lot of gristle and was very difficult to eat.

The highlight of the meal was the crispy crunch sweet potato fries & aioli for an additional $2.50. The aioli was tasty, complimenting the fries.
