Garlic Bread with Bacon Drippings

Garlic bread is a nice addition to an Italian meal or pasta dish. I wanted to make a variation with french bread for additional crunch and use up some bacon drippings for some bacon flavor. The toast was a bit decadent, but the garlic cut the flavor of the bacon well.

  • 1/6 cup bacon drippings, softened
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 loaf (1/2 pound) French bread, halved lengthwise

Spread bacon drippings and chopped garlic on cut sides of bread; reassemble loaf. Wrap in a large piece of heavy-duty foil; seal tightly. Toast covered, over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side. Unwrap and separate bread halves. Optional, sprinkle with parmesean cheese.
