Burger Dive, Somerville

Burger Dive is a “upscale fast casual” burger joint from the same group that owns Papagayo, Dylan’s and Sip Wine Bar. It is located in Somerville’s new Assembly Square next to Starbucks and across from Christmas Tree Shops.

You order at the counter, get issued a number and they call you when it’s ready. They also offer kiosk style ordering that let’s you bypass the line that can be lengthy at peak dining times. The order is served on a plain black plastic plate on a galvinized tin tray. You help yourself to condiments. Combo deals aren’t flexible or deals.

In addition to natural beef, Burger Dive offers turkey, chicken and veggie burgers, hot dogs, five different salads, various sides, nine hand made shakes and a few different desserts. One of the pluses to this establishment is that they serve bottled beer and boozy spiked shakes.

UltiMelt- This interpretation of a patty melt ($6.99) loads the sandwich with Swiss cheese and caramelized onions. Sadly it didn’t seem loaded. The beef was served well done when we ordered medium, which made it dry. Martin’s potato rolls are used as buns. They are supposed to come stamped with the Burger Dive logo but we didn’t get that on ours. They’re soft, slightly sweet and pillowy.

Burger Dive Classic- This is a basic bare bones burger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and pickles only ($4.99) and an extra beef patty ($1.85). Both patties were well done despite being ordered as medium.

Overall, I would probably pass up a chance to eat at Burger Dive again unless I was in the immediate area and my primary fast food style burger choices weren’t available. The quality seems worse than Five Guys to me. A quality burger means more to me than mediocre one, especially at these prices.
