Ingredients
- Cherry puree - The star of this cherry drink! We make it by blending thawed frozen cherries with their juice.
- Fresh lime juice - Pairs perfectly with the flavor of tart cherries.
- Simple syrup - Adds a pop of sweetness.
- Seltzer - You can use plain or any flavor of sparkling water for this drink.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make a Cherry Mocktail
Step One: Put ice in a glass. Add the cherry puree. Add the simple syrup.
Step Two: Top it off with the sparkling soda. Stir carefully. Add a garnish and enjoy.
Top Tip
You can make your own cherry puree by adding thawed frozen cherries to a blender or food processor.
Substitutions
- Sweetener - A lot of various sweeteners will pair well with the flavor of cherry drinks. You can add maple syrup, agave nectar, or anything else that you like.Â
- Tart cherry juice - If you have tart cherry juice, you can swap that in for the cherry puree. You may need to add extra simple syrup to balance the tartness.
Variations
- Club soda - You can switch flavors up a bit by trying this with club soda, lemon-lime soda, prebiotic soda, or other fun flavor ideas.
- Flavor additions - Add a pop of flavor and stir with a cinnamon stick. You can also garnish with a sprig of mint or top with fresh cherries for more cherry flavor. Squeeze in some citrus juice or lemon juice, and top with lime zest for other flavor options.
- Juice - Using juices is a fun way to vary flavors, too. Orange juice is a great mix to add, as well as a little bit of cranberry juice.

Equipment
If you want to be fancy, you can use a cocktail shaker to make this tart cherry juice mocktail, but it's really not necessary! All you really need is a food processor or blender for the best results.
Storage
Due to the ease of this simple mocktail, I recommend making and enjoying it fresh. If you do make this ahead of time, you'll want to keep it stored in the fridge and stir well before serving. Also, be sure that you don't store it with ice, as that will water it down.
Common Questions
I'm all about using frozen cherries because I'm looking for a thicker texture. If you want to use fresh cherries, then that's fine as well - just know that it won't have that "slushy" texture to it, like it would when using frozen cherries.Â
I don't recommend trying to blend or add crushed ice to "thicken" the drink, as this usually results in chunks of ice, and that, to me, isn't a desirable consistency when sipping a drink.
