How to Make Edible Snickerdoodle Dough

Step One: Stir the sugar, flour, and cinnamon together.

Step Four: You can roll the cookie dough balls in extra cinnamon sugar mixture, but this is optional.
Top Tip
Many recipes call for heating flour to kill any bacteria or contaminants. I do not do this. We have never gotten sick from raw flour.
If you would like to heat-treat the flour to kill harmful bacteria and contaminants, you may do so. Microwave the flour for 1 minute, stirring after 30 seconds. Allow to cool before proceeding.
Variations
- Add-ins - Mix in some chocolate chips and omit the cinnamon to turn this into edible chocolate chip cookie dough. I also like adding white chocolate chips to this recipe as written.
- Brown sugar - If you want to swap the white sugar for brown sugar, you can. You could also do a half-half combination.
- Topping - If you want a fun topping, drizzle a bit of melted chocolate over the top. Or you can coat the balls in melted white chocolate.

Equipment
It's easy to make the dough for snickerdoodle cookies. All you need is mixing bowls for the dry ingredients, a spoon, and you're good to go. You can use a hand mixer or a stand mixer, but it's not a requirement. A measuring cup and an airtight container are also good to have.
Storage
Once you make the cookie dough balls, keep them stored in a container with a lid in the refrigerator. They do need to be kept in the fridge. You can also add them to the freezer to save for later.

Common Questions
I've had no issues with this recipe, but if you're worried about possible bacteria, read the top tip above the steps for heat-treated flour. A lot of people just assume that raw eggs are what causes issues, but it's actually the flour as well. You can give your mind peace by heating the flour to the appropriate heat level before eating.
I like to use a small cookie scoop. It makes it a clean and simple process to scoop the dough and roll it into balls. If you don't have a cookie scoop, use a tablespoon to scoop out an amount and roll. You'll have to eyeball it a bit to get them the same size.
Absolutely. Adding in nuts or mini chocolate chips is a great way to change the flavor and texture. You can easily make this cookie dough recipe into sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies, or sprinkle cookies. The fun part is that you can mix and match the cookie dough as well, so if you want to try the chocolate chips before committing to the entire batch, just add a few to a cookie dough ball and eat.
Don't forget that toppings are fun as well. If you're making these for the holidays, sprinkle some red and green sprinkles onto the top of the bites for a festive look. You might have to press them down a bit into the surface to get them to stay.
