Cocoa Blossom Cookies are perfect for any cookie fan! Make them for Valentine's Day, the holiday season, or when a sweet tooth calls for a treat. These fudgy chocolate cookies will leave chocolate fans perfectly satisfied, and they'll especially love the chocolate kiss in the center.

If you're a fan of peanut butter blossoms, you're going to love this chocolate blossom cookies recipe. The concept is the same; it's the flavor that varies. I make these all the time for birthdays at school, parties, and our holiday cookie tray, and they're always a huge hit. The rich chocolate flavor makes them one of my favorite baked cookies.
I recommend making a double batch of these chocolate kiss cookies because they'll go fast. Once they come out of the oven and the cookies cool, people are going to be grabbing one for each hand.

Ingredients
- Sugar - For sweetness.
- Flour - The all purpose flour mixture is the base to make the cookie dough.
- Cocoa powder - Unsweetened cocoa powder is the base flavor of the chocolate cookie dough.
- Brown sugar - For more added sweetness. We use light brown sugar but dark brown sugar would also work.
- Baking soda - Helps with the cookie texture.
- Salt - For flavor.
- Salted butter - This needs to be very soft or melted to use. If you have unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt.
- Egg - Binds all the ingredients together.
- Vanilla extract - For added flavor.
- Hersey Kisses - We use classic milk chocolate kisses for the tops of the cookies.

How to Make Cocoa Blossom Cookies
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Add parchment paper to two large baking sheets.

Step One: Whisk the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and butter. Mix until smooth.

Step Two: We use a hand mixer on low speed for 2-3 minutes. Use a cookie scoop and scoop out 18 cookies. The dough may be a bit sticky.

Step Three: Roll each of the cookie dough balls in sugar before putting it on the baking sheet.

Step Four: Put the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes. Cracks are normal and give the cookies texture and character. Once done, press a kiss in the middle of each hot cookie.
Top Tip
You can use a small cookie scoop to make smaller cookies or a medium cookie scoop to make larger cookies. It's an easy recipe to make and change the outcome.
Variations
- Hershey's kisses - While these are my favorite, you can add other pieces of chocolate in the center of each cookie. Chocolate lovers love a Hershey kiss, but you can change it up or use other flavors of kisses, like dark chocolate kisses or white chocolate hugs. Chocolate peppermint kisses are great around Christmas.
- Leave out the chocolate kisses - If you don't want the extra chocolate, leave it off the top. The base cookies are amazing on their own
- Powdered sugar - Roll the balls in powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar. They'll be similar to chocolate crinkle cookies like our Brownie Crinkle Cookies.

Equipment
To make these soft chocolate cookies, you'll want to have a large bowl, a hand mixer, a wooden spoon, measuring cups, parchment paper, and cookie sheets. If you want a wire rack to let them cook, that is optional.
Storage
Once the classic chocolate cookies are done baking, store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for 4-5 days. They can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks. You can also store them in a freezer bag and freeze them for later.

Common Questions
When it comes to making the best cookie recipes, you have options! Along with the Hershey kiss, you could also sprinkle a bit of sea salt on top of the cookies for a sweet and salty flavor.
If you really wanted to add a pop of taste, drizzle a little bit of caramel syrup over the top and let it cool.
The other fun option is that if you make these for a holiday, you can add holiday colored sprinkles to make them pop. Red and green for Christmas, and pink for Valentine's Day. That way, you still get the same delicious flavor, but a whole fun new look. This is an easy way to turn them into a festive year-round treat.
