I'm a big fan of making homemade lattes. Not only does it save money cash, but it means that I can add fun stuff and make it my own each time as well. Flavorful matcha lattes? You bet. Lattes made with almond milk instead of dairy milk? For sure. The options are truly limitless when I'm the barista!
Once you start making lattes at home, you'll be hooked, just like me. Frozen lattes are also that "gray area" drink where they can be awesome to enjoy any time of the day. Are you ready to start saving money and getting that caffeine fix whenever you need it? Check out the easy instructions below!

Ingredients
- Ice cubes - You can't have a frozen latte without ice.
- Whole milk - Thins out the latte.
- Vanilla ice cream - Adds sweetness and texture.
- Espresso - Adds the perfect pop of caffeine.
- Simple syrup - Adds sweetness.Â
- Vanilla extract - For flavor.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make a Frozen Latte
Step One: Add the ice cream to the blender.
Step Two: Pour in the milk.
Step Three: Add the remaining ingredients.
Step Four: Pulse and blend until thick and creamy.
Top Tip
If you want the texture to be thicker, use less milk or add more ice and/or ice cream. If you want to thin it out, add more milk.
Substitutions
- Syrup - You can add a flavored syrup, like our vanilla bean simple syrup recipe, for more options.Â
- Leave out the caffeine - If you don't want to use espresso, you can use decaffeinated coffee instead.
- Milk - If you want to use almond milk or any other type of milk, you can. I use whole milk because we drink that, but you can absolutely use what you have in your house.
Variations
- Add toppings - A drizzle of caramel sauce on top is a nice touch! You could also sprinkle chocolate chips, add whipped cream, add some chocolate sauce, cocoa powder, or anything else that you are craving.Â
- Ice cream - Use different flavors of ice cream to change the outcome.

Equipment
All you really need to make this recipe is a measuring cup and a blender.
Storage
Due to the added ice cubes and ice cream, I don't recommend making this until you are ready to enjoy it. If you try and make it ahead of time, the ingredients will separate, leaving a less than desirable outcome.
This latte is best created and enjoyed right after.
I also don't recommend making and freezing for later either.
Common Questions
Due to the added caffeine, I don't recommend this as a kid-friendly drink. You can however leave out the espresso, and it basically will taste like a milkshake to them! You can also swap out and use a bit of hot cocoa powder in its place to give it a chocolatey flavor. There are so many options to tweak this one!Â
More than likely, you just don't have the ice and liquid ratio correct. Don't stress; it's fixable. Just add more ice cubes to the blender to make it thicker until you get the right consistency.
Same answer as above, just reversed! If you notice that the latte is really thick, just add more milk to thin it out. It's as easy and stress-free as that.
It's both! Lattes are super popular drink recipes to make, but the added ice cream does put it into that sweet dessert category. My take on it? Why choose? I just make it when I've craving it and I've never been disappointed yet!
You can easily make it even more "dessert" by adding toppings that chocolate and other sweet bits. Try it one way, then switch it up and try it another way to see what you like best.
