I actually prefer my homemade version of this easy recipe. While I love supporting a local coffee shop here and there, there's just something about waking up and walking into the kitchen to make my own. The good news is that anyone can make it taste like perfection on the first try.
If you're looking for something a bit different than a typical hot coffee, this easy homemade caramel drink is it. And yes, it tastes just like a Starbucks copycat drink, without the added stress of getting out of your pajamas and getting in the car to order.

Ingredients
- Cold coffee - This can be leftover coffee from the coffee maker, cold brewed coffee, or cooled instant coffee. Whatever works.
- Half and half - This is a great way to add richness to the homemade iced coffee.
- Caramel syrup - You can't have iced caramel coffee without caramel. Any store-bought caramel sauce will work.
- Ice cubes - Just add to the serving glass, and it gives you that coolness.
- Simple syrup - This is optional, but it's an easy way to add a little more sweetness.

How to Make this Caramel Iced Coffee Recipe

Step One: Add the caramel syrup and half and half to a tall glass. Stir well.

Step Two: Pour in the cold coffee.

Step Three: Add the ice cubes to your glass or mason jar. Stir it.

Step Four: Top with whipped cream and add more caramel drizzle.
Top Tip
You could also add coffee ice cubes for a bolder coffee flavor. You'll want to make these ahead of time so that they freeze and are ready. To make, just pour any leftover coffee right into the ice cube tray and freeze. Once they are frozen, pop them out and add them to your cup of cold brew coffee.
Substitutions
- Milk - You can use skim milk, whole milk, or low-fat milk in place of the half-and-half.
- Dairy-Free - If you want to use an alternative milk in this recipe, any milk type will work. Almond milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or even soy milk are all great options to pair with this amazing iced coffee. The creaminess will vary based on your choice.
- Sugar-Free - Simply swap in a sugar-free caramel syrup and sugar-free simple syrup.

Variations
- Make it seasonal - Pick the best coffee for the season. You can easily turn this into a pumpkin spice latte by using pumpkin spice coffee. The caramel drizzle would still pair perfectly.

Common Questions
Sure, just don't add ice. If you do, the ice cubes will melt a bit, and then the entire drink will be watered down. Instead, go ahead and make a big batch and store it in the fridge. Add ice when ready to serve.
Absolutely. If you are cutting back on caffeine or want to make this drink later in the day and don't want to stay up all night, swap out the coffee for decaffeinated coffee. It won't change the flavor at all, but it will remove the caffeine, so it won't affect you.
