We've always been told not to eat raw cookie dough, but this Edible Sugar Cookie Dough breaks all the rules in the best way possible. No raw eggs, just simple ingredients for a simple dessert or quick treat.

I'm all about an easy dessert. If you're a fan of sugar cookies, this edible cookie dough recipe proves that eating raw cookie dough safely can be the perfect treat. Some days, you just need a spoonful of cookie dough instead of baking an entire batch of cookies.
Fair warning, this easy recipe is a must for the holiday season. A delicious treat for any sweet tooth craving! You could make these classic sugar cookie dough bites for a party or for single servings when the craving strikes.

Ingredients
- Flour - The main ingredient in this tasty treat.
- White sugar - To add sweetness.
- Salted butter - It needs to be very soft if you want to mix this recipe by hand. You can use an electric hand mixer if you prefer.
- Milk - You can use whole milk or almond milk for this edible dough.
- Vanilla extract - Adds a hint of vanilla flavor.
- Salt - Just a tiny pinch is what you need.

How to Make Edible Sugar Cookie Dough

Step One: Combine the sugar and flour and stir. Mix in the butter, milk, vanilla extract, and salt until combined. Taste and tweak. You can add a little more milk (a teaspoon at a time) if needed for the right consistency.

Step Two: Roll into balls. Using a cookie scoop or ice cream scoop keeps them the same size. Place on a wax paper or parchment lined rimmed baking sheet.

Step Three: Roll in extra sugar, if desired. This adds a nice texture.

Step Four: Enjoy immediately or put in the fridge for later.
Top Tip
Many recipes call for heating flour to kill any harmful bacteria or contaminants. I do not do this. We have never gotten sick from raw flour.
If you would like to heat-treat the flour to kill bacteria and contaminants, you may. Microwave the flour in a microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute, stirring after 30 seconds. Allow the heat-treated flour to cool before proceeding.
Variations
- Add your favorite mix-ins - Add some rainbow sprinkles to this sweet treat to turn it into funfetti cookie dough (my kids' fave). Or add crushed candy canes or Christmas sprinkles for a festive dessert. Another option is to add pecans, toffee bits, crushed Oreos, or dried fruit.
- Chocolate Chips - Add some mini chocolate chips for a pop of sweet flavor. This is an easy spin to make edible chocolate chip cookie dough. White chocolate chips or peanut butter chips are also delicious.
- Extract - You could add almond extract or even peppermint extract for a fun twist.
- Coating - Coat the dough balls in melted white chocolate to make them into truffles. You can also dip half the ball and then coat with sprinkles for a pretty look.

Storage
Just like regular cookie dough, you can make and store these in the fridge for later. Store right on the cookie sheet covered in plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. I'll add some parchment paper between the layers so that they don't stick together.
You can also freeze this cookie dough in a freezer-safe container.

Common Questions
We've been making and eating this recipe for years, and we've never had an issue. The main problem with eating raw cookie dough is consuming raw eggs but this dough is eggless.
While they're fine to set out at room temperature for a while, ultimately they need to be stored in the fridge. If you don't want them cold, you can sit them out at room temperature for a short time and then eat.
Literally just a few minutes. That's all it takes. Once you mix the ingredients for this easy treat and roll them into bites, you're good to eat them. There is no cooking or baking, just stir, roll, and enjoy.
