It's so satisfying being able to make your own jar of jam. I love this homemade pineapple jam recipe because it's an easy recipe that makes a tasty treat. You can add this to ice cream, as hostess gifts, or even mix it with barbecue sauce for a sweet and spicy taste.
I've been enjoying it with vanilla yogurt, fresh strawberries, and our Vanilla Almond Granola Recipe.
This sweet jam has the right amount of sweetness, and that desired consistency so that it's thick enough to hold its own against other ingredients or options. Once you make your own pineapple jam, you won't need to buy it from the grocery stores any longer.

Ingredients
- Pineapple fresh or frozen - I don't recommend using canned pineapple but it can work in a pinch.
- Sugar - I use less sugar in that than many jam recipes since pineapple is naturally sweet. You can use more or less if you prefer.
- Cold water - Cold water is needed to dissolve the cornstarch so it doesn't clump when added to the hot jam.
- Cornstarch - This helps to add a little bit of thickness.

How to Make this Pineapple Jam Recipe
Homemade jam recipes like this are so fun to make! This has a very simple cooking process combined with simple ingredients.
Step One: Add the pineapple to a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
Step Two: Cook for 8-10 minutes or until the pineapple is juicy. It helps to squish the fruit with a potato masher.
Step Three: Add the cold water and the cornstarch to a small bowl.
Step Four: Put the pineapple into a food processor and then add the sugar and cornstarch. Process until the jam is chunky.
Step Five: Put the mixture back into the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes. It should be thick and bubbly.
Step Six: Let the jam cool to room temperature. Pour into clean jars and store in the fridge.
Top Tip
You can add a bit of lime juice or lemon juice to add a fun citrus flavor. These flavors pair well with delicious homemade pineapple preserves.
Substitutions
- Fruit - You can make this simple fruit jam with all different types of fruit. Peaches, blueberries, strawberries - you name it. Swap out the pineapple for other fresh or frozen fruits and have fun. Or use half pineapple and half another fruit.
- Sweetener - I use a bit of white sugar to sweetener the pineapple. You can also use brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, or a sugar-free sweetener.
Variations
- Spices - Add a bit of cinnamon flavor by adding a cinnamon stick to the pineapple while it's cooking. Fresh or dried ginger goes well with pineapple. For a more unique flavor, star anise could be a yummy addition to the original recipe.
- Lemon zest - You can add a bit of lemon zest to the stockpot as well.

Equipment
A large pot, food processor, and clean jars are all that are needed to make this yummy pineapple recipe.
Storage
After a few minutes of cooking time, you'll want to store the jam in the fridge in an airtight container. Since you're not technically canning or adding preservatives to this recipe, it's best to eat within the week of making it.
Be sure that you are using a clean spoon to dip into it when serving, as you don't want to get any bacteria on the spoon, which will then transfer into the jam. This is the fastest way to spread bacteria and cause the jam to spoil.
Common Questions
Yes, you can. You can leave it chunkier when you're processing it, which will give it a more natural thickness easily enough.Â
You can also thin out the jam by adding a little bit of pineapple juice to the jam. Play with the consistency a bit to figure out how you prefer it.
Yes. If you were going to freeze this recipe, add to a mason jar leaving an inch or two empty at the top since it expands as it freezes. Alternatively, adding it to an ice cube container and freezing it that way would be a simple and fun option to freeze in smaller serving sizes.Â
