This Lemonade Recipe for One is perfect for a hot day. Only five simple ingredients are needed to make this single serving lemonade recipe! You'll have the perfect glass of lemonade to sip and enjoy in less than 5 minutes!
What I love about this simple recipe is that I don't have to make an entire pitcher of lemonade. While there are times when it's necessary to make a cool drink on a hot summer day for large groups of people, sometimes I'm the only one craving lemonade - and this is where this recipe shines.
The sweet flavor of this single serving of lemonade is so good, and it's just a breeze to whip up once that craving hits. The recipe card below gives you the entire full recipe, so be sure to grab the instructions to make it perfectly the first time.
And yes - if you're having a friend over, just double the recipe, and suddenly, you've got Lemonade for Two! It's as simple as that!

Ingredients
- Boiling water - Hot water is key to dissolving the sugar.
- Sugar - I use white sugar for this as I like the taste. You can use a sweetener of your choice for this recipe as well.
- Lemon juice - If you can squeeze juice from fresh lemons, fresh lemon juice is always best!
- Ice cubes - This cools down the finished drink.
- Cold water as needed - You might need this if it's too sweet or you want to cool your cold glass of lemonade more.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make this Lemonade Recipe for One
Step One: Add the boiling water and sugar to a 16-ounce heat-safe drinking glass or mason jar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. If you have simple syrup made you can skip this step.
Step Two: Pour in the lemon juice and add the ice. Stir.
Step Three: Add cold water if needed. Serve with a slice of lemon or lemon halves.
Top Tip
You can also use bottled lemon juice for this recipe, but I do think that fresh juice has a better flavor. You'll need several large lemons to get the right amount of juice for this recipe, so keep that in mind when heading to the grocery store.
Variations
- Flavored ice cubes - A fun variation for this drink recipe would be to freeze another type of juice and add them as flavored ice cubes to this drink. Pomegranate juice or strawberry juice would be delicious and a fun way to cool this drink recipe down.
- Add-ins - Try adding a herb like mint (check out my Mint Lemonade Recipe) or lavender (see this Lavender Lemonade). Or add a few drops of vanilla extract. Fresh or frozen berries are another great addition.

Substitutions
For a stronger lemon flavor, you can add more lemon juice or even some lemon zest to this recipe.
If you want to heat the boiling water and sugar in a small saucepan on the stove and mix there before adding to a regular glass, you can do that as well.
Storage
Single serving recipes like this should be enjoyed right away. Make it and drink it fresh for the best flavor and taste.
Common Questions
A glass of lemonade isn't hard to make at all! You really just need a few simple ingredients - water, sugar, and lemon juice. You can use less sugar if you want, and the key to a great tasting glass of homemade lemonade is to use real lemons.Â
A lot of people have trouble with this. I add the ice cubes to my glass and pour the lemonade into it right when I'm ready to drink it. That way, even if the ice melts a little bit, it hasn't watered down my entire glass.Â
You bet! If you're making this during a hot summer day, a cute umbrella or funky straw would be great to pair with this sweet drink. Edible flowers are also another really fun and simple addition to pair with this cold lemonade.Â
Don't forget that you can easily add some extra sugar to the rim of the glass as well to make a burst of extra sweetness each time you take a sip!
