This easy chocolate mousse recipe is the perfect dessert. The texture is somewhere in between homemade whipped cream, and thicker frosting, which makes this mousse mixture have the perfect mouth feel.Â

Ingredients
- Heavy cream - This is needed to make the texture of this delicious chocolate mousse.
- Chocolate chips - I use semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe.
- Cream cheese - Adds the creaminess and smooth texture.

How to Make 3 Ingredient Chocolate Mousse
Step One: Melt the chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds, then stir. Heat for 15 seconds, then stir. Repeat until the chocolate chips are 75% melted. Once done, stir until all the rest of the chips are melted.
Step Two: Add the room temperature cream cheese to the melted chocolate and stir until it is smooth and without lumps. It is helpful to use an electric mixer so the chocolate mixture is smooth.
Step Three: In a different mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Add â…“ of the melted chocolate and cream cheese mixture into that bowl and mix well. Fold in the rest of the whipped cream.
Step Four: Serve in small bowls. You can spoon it into them or pipe it. Up to you!
Top Tip
If you are using dark or semisweet chocolate you may want to add a tablespoon or two of powdered sugar when you add the cream cheese. The sweetness in this comes entirely from the sugar in the chocolate.
Variations
- Chocolate - If you don't want to use chocolate chips, you can use chocolate shavings, chopped chocolate, dark chocolate chips, or any other type of chocolate that melts.
- Orange zest - Add a pop of flavor by adding orange zest.
- Peanut butter - Swirl a bit of peanut butter into the mousse when piping. Or mix some in when you add the cream cheese.

Equipment
Chocolate mousse recipes like this are easy to make! All you need is a couple of glass bowls that are microwave safe, a whisk or electric mixer, and a serving dish. Easy as that!
If you don't have a stand mixer or hand mixer, you can use a whisk and beat until the peaks form.
Storage
While you can eat this right when it's made, it is best after chilling for an hour or two. You can also make it ahead of time and store for later, or store to serve for a later point in the day. Just be sure that you cover it with plastic wrap or keep it in an airtight container. Any leftovers will need to be kept in the fridge until you are ready to serve.Â
Common Questions
You can literally top with anything that you are craving. Chocolate chips, chocolate sauce, or even sliced fresh strawberries are a fun way to add another layer of flavor to this dish. I always change it up each time, and sometimes, I don't even add toppings because I love this recipe just the way it is.Â
I do not recommend freezing this recipe because of the heavy whipping cream ingredient. While it's technically possible to freeze it, it will change the texture of the dessert once it unthaws. For the best results, make this mousse and enjoy it fresh.Â
