This easy recipe is one of my favorite ways to use Oreos. It's crazy to think how much we pay at an ice cream shop when you can make this chocolate sandwich cookie ice cream recipe right at home. The rich flavor and crushed cookies make an easy Oreo ice cream that the whole family will love.
Forget about store-bought ice cream - this recipe is the real deal. The hardest part is not eating the entire recipe in one sitting!

Ingredients
- Heavy cream - This adds richness to the ice cream dessert.
- Whole milk - Combined with heavy whipping cream, this gives the perfect amount of fat for creamy ice cream.
- Black cocoa powder - Black cocoa has that iconic Oreo flavor. It is perfect in this ice cream recipe.
- Sugar - For added sweetness.
- Egg yolks - If you are concerned about using raw egg yolks in ice cream, you can purchase pasteurized eggs or temper the ice cream base.
- Oreo crumbs - Crumbled Oreos are the star of this easy dessert.

How to Make this Oreo Ice Cream Recipe

Step One: Add the first six ingredients into a blender.

Step Two: Blend until smooth. It will be thick and creamy.

Step Three: Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions for your ice cream maker.

Step Four: Let the ice cream churn. It takes about 20 minutes to reach this point.

Step Five: Once the churning is complete, mix in the Oreo crumbs. You can eat the soft ice cream at this point or freeze it until it is firmer.

Step Six: Put the Oreo cookie ice cream mixture into a freezer-safe container. Freeze for 3-4 hours or until firm. Scoop and enjoy!
Top Tip
If you want to temper the ice cream base, heat the base after step 2 until it is thick enough to coat the back of a wooden spoon. Transfer to the fridge. Chill in the refrigerator until it is very cold before proceeding with the recipe. If you notice any pieces of egg strain through a fine-mesh sieve.
Substitutions
- Chopped cookies - If you love other types of cookies, use them! This can be done with chocolate chip cookies, etc. Try adding in some Cookies and Cream Cookies.
Variations
- Toppings - The ONLY way to make this easy homemade Oreo ice cream better is to add your favorite toppings. You can add whipped cream, hot fudge sauce, extra Oreos, a crushed up warm brownie - you know the drill.
- Flavors - Add a generous pinch of sea salt to make salted chocolate ice cream. That is one of our favorites at the ice cream shop we visit on summer vacation.
- Peanut butter - Adding a scoop of peanut butter can turn this into a delicious Oreo chocolate peanut butter ice cream. It's just that simple.
- Vanilla - Add a tablespoon of vanilla extract in place of the cocoa powder, and make this with a vanilla ice cream base instead.

Equipment
You'll want to have a blender or large mixing bowl to combine the ingredients. An ice cream machine is also a must. If you don't have an ice cream container, you can use a loaf pan and plastic wrap to store this homemade ice cream recipe.
