Ingredients
- Heavy cream - This gives the base of the ice cream a creamy texture.
- Whole milk - Using full-fat milk gives great texture to creamy desserts like this.
- Pineapple chunks canned in pineapple juice - Do not drain the juice before adding. Pineapple comes in real pineapple juice and we want to add the juice as well as the chunks.
- Egg yolks - If you are concerned about using raw egg yolks in ice cream, you can purchase pasteurized eggs or temper the ice cream base.
- Sugar - For sweetness.

How to Make Pineapple Ice Cream

Top Tip
Make sure that you store this pineapple ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer to avoid freezer burn. If you notice ice crystals on the ice cream, that's your indicator that air is getting into the container.
Substitutions
- Coconut milk - The next time you make this simple dessert, add coconut milk instead of whole milk to make pineapple coconut ice cream.
- Frozen fruits - You can add other fruits like strawberries, mangoes, or even blueberries to add flavors that are a little different or even fun tropical flavors.
Variations
- Use real pineapple - While I'm a fan of canned pineapple for this delicious ice cream recipe, you can easily use ripe and real pineapple instead. Just be sure that you use the fresh and sweet part of the ripe pineapple and don't use any of the pineapple core. You can even grill fresh pineapple first and use that to maximize flavor. We do that with peaches in out Grilled Peach Ice Cream.
- Turn it into a pineapple milkshake - Another delicious dessert that you can easily make is a milkshake. Just omit the eggs, and use frozen pineapple chunks - and blend everything together with an immersion blender.

Equipment
Delicious recipes like this are simple. You'll need a blender, and an ice cream machine to make this simple treat.
Storage
Store the ice cream in the freezer in a freezer-safe container for up to 3-4 weeks.
Common Questions
You can store it in a bread loaf pan and cover it with a piece of plastic wrap. This is okay for a short-term solution and will work fine if you're going to make it and eat it within a week.
The sky is the limit when it comes to ice cream toppings! You can add pineapple syrup or Pineapple Jam, sprinkles, chopped candies, maraschino cherries - and more! Anything you want to add is going to add fun flavor options!Â
Make sure your ice cream maker bowl is fully frozen before using it. And then after churning allow at least 3-4 hours in the freezer. This will help it firm up, but still may not be fully frozen. The longer you store it, the firmer it will get, so ultimately it's up to you the texture of the ice cream based on how long it's frozen before eating.
