Ingredients
- Water - This helps to keep the drink thin without being overly sweet.
- Sugar - For a burst of added sweetness.
- Frozen strawberries - Using frozen strawberries simplifies the prep and chills the drink.
- Green tea bag - Green tea has a nice earthy flavor.
- Sliced strawberries - For a nice burst of coloring and natural sweetness.
- White grape juice - We use grape juice to naturally sweeten the drink so it needs less added sugar.
See recipe card for quantities.
How To Make This Starbucks Strawberry Refresher Recipe
Step One: Mix 1 cup of boiling water with the sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Or you can use premade simple syrup or honey.
Step Two: Add the rest of the water to the tea bag and let it steep for 3-4 minutes. Remove the tea bag.
Step Three: Add the simple syrup, tea, and berries to a blender. Puree.
Step Four: Strain out the seeds.
Step Five: Stir the puree and press through the sieve to extract most of the juice. Put the sliced berries into a mason jar.
Step Six: Then pour the strawberry refresher mixture and grape juice over the berries. Serve with ice.
Top Tip
You can use fresh strawberries in the blender, but using frozen does help chill the drink.
Substitutions
- Fresh fruit - When you make your own strawberry refresher, add different fruits. You can add freeze-dried fruit in the drink for a fun look, or fresh blackberries or blueberries for the perfect combination.
- Syrup - Adding strawberry syrup to this delicious drink gives it a boost of strawberry flavor. Most store bought syrups do have extra added sugar so cut back or omit the simple syrup.
- Fruit juice - I use white grape juice, but you can change that up and use apple juice or another juice.
Variations
- Coconut milk - Adding a little coconut milk can turn this into a lighter pink drink with a hint of coconut flavoring.
- Powders - Adding passion fruit powder is a great way to alter the base recipe into something great. You can also add acai powder or acai berry powder to make this into a homemade strawberry acai refresher.
- Lemonade - Add lemon juice to make a strawberry lemonade.
See this Iced Guava White Tea Lemonade for another fruit drink and flavor that'll be a fan favorite.
Equipment
A blender, fine mesh strainer, and a tall glass or mason jar are all you need.
Storage
Store in an airtight container such as a large mason jar and give it a shake or a stir before drinking. You'll want to add some fresh ice cubes as well!
Common Questions
Not straining out the solid pieces of the frozen strawberries is the fastest way to give this simple drink more texture. This isn't intended to be a thick drink or a smoothie, but rather be light and refreshing. This is what makes this a unique fan favorite.Â
That's what I love about copycat drink recipes. To get that popular refresher flavor, you just need a few simple ingredients and steps, which I've listed at the bottom of this post.Â
The next time you have a craving save yourself drive time, and whip this up in your own kitchen instead.
Why not? Add a cute little umbrella to the drink if you're feeling the summer vibes, or line the rim with sugar. It's your drink recipe - enjoy it in any way that you want.Â
