Ingredients
- Salted butter - This helps to keep the cake-like texture moist and not dry.
- Milk - Needed to combine the wet and dry ingredients.
- All-purpose flour - The basis of the cake mixture.
- Black cocoa powder - Adds more chocolate flavoring and a darker coloring.
- Sugar - For added sweetness.
- Vanilla extract - Vanilla enhances the other flavors in the mug cake.
- Baking powder - For texture.
- Oreo cookies - Chop them by hand before adding.
See recipe card for quantities.
How to Make Oreo Mug Cake

Top Tip
You may need to heat this single serving dessert in 10-second increments if it's not ready after the initial listed time. Microwaves have different wattages, so the heat time can and will vary.
Substitutions
- Almond milk - You can use almond milk for this recipe, or any kind of milk.Â
- Cookies - Try swapping in another type of cookies or flavored Oreos.
Variations
- Add your favorite toppings - Once you make this easy Oreo mug cake, add fun flavors to the top. A scoop of ice cream, a spoonful of whipped cream or Cool Whip, drizzle some caramel sauce, or add more crushed Oreos! A drizzle of chocolate sauce is also super yummy for this sweet treat.

Equipment
I love making this delicious dessert because all you need is a mug that is microwave-safe, and a microwave. Less equipment means less clean up! (But I will pass on this little tip - make sure that you rinse out or wash the mug right away once you get done eating the fluffy cake because as it hardens, it's going to take a lot longer to clean!)Â
Storage
I feel pretty confident saying that this dessert won't have any leftovers because it's made to eat the entire cake in one sitting. If you do have to save it for later, just cover it and store it in the fridge. You can then pop it back in the microwave to heat up again and enjoy.Â
Common Questions
Honestly, it tastes like a real homemade cake. It has a light and fluffy texture and is also super moist. It has all the same flavors that you would find in a homemade baked cake, just in a smaller, compact size.
You can! I think any type of Oreo cookies will work with this recipe, so have fun. You can try using a 1:1 gluten free flour so the whole thing is gluten-free.
Once you follow all the steps on the printable recipe card, you'll notice that the mug cake has the texture of a real cake. It should be light and fluffy, without any large amount of excess liquid or moisture. You can let it cool for a couple of minutes because it will be hot, and as it cools, it should also continue to firm a bit.Â
