Ingredients
Check out the simple ingredients below to get started.
- Heavy cream - Heavy whipping cream is needed for a creamy texture.
- Whole milk - Whole milk balances the heavy cream to create the perfect amount of milkfat.
- Maple syrup - I love using real maple syrup for added flavor.
- Vanilla extract - Vanilla enhances the flavor of the syrup.
- Salt - Adding a little bit of salt will also enhance the other flavors.

How to Make Maple Syrup Ice Cream
Are you ready to learn how to make your own ice cream? It is so easy!
Step One: Add all the ingredients into a blender.
Step Two: Blend until smooth. Low speed is fine.
Step Three: Add the mixture to an ice cream machine. Churn the ingredients according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Step Four: The machine will make the mixture nice and creamy. Most ice cream machines take about 20 minutes to churn.
Step Five: Once done, put the finished product into a freezer-safe container and freeze until firm. This typically takes 3-4 hours.
Step Six: Serve and enjoy!
Top Tip
Using an ice cream scoop or large spoon is the best way to scoop out this creamy ice cream. Freezing it for 3-4 hours gives it the perfect texture to easily scoop.
Substitutions
- Honey - Swap out the maple syrup for honey to make honey ice cream!
Variations
- Extracts - If you don't want to use vanilla extract, you can swap it out for maple extract for a boost of maple flavor. You could also use coconut extract to create a delicious coconut ice cream!
- Extra Creamy - For extra creamy ice cream add a few raw egg yolks to the ice cream base.
Try serving this on top of my Apple Crumble Tart for an amazing flavor combination!
Equipment
To make this delicious maple ice cream, you'll need to have an ice cream maker, a freezer-safe airtight container, and a blender.
Storage
Homemade ice cream recipes have to be stored properly, or they will get rock hard and get ice crystals in them - and no one wants that! Be sure that you freeze the recipe for 3-4 hours right away, and then keep it stored in the freezer in a freezer-safe container until you've eaten it all.
If you want it to have a softer texture to scoop easier, just set it out at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes.
Common Questions
I put my ice cream in a large bowl because I love adding toppings! You can add nuts (walnuts go well with maple), sprinkles, chocolate chips, frosted flakes (so good!), Rice Krispies (I love the crunch), or anything else that you want.Â
You can also drizzle some extra pure maple syrup right on top of this ice cream for a natural sweetness, too. Honey is a great option as well! All options are good options when it comes to treating your taste buds to what they're craving.
It can if you eat it right from the ice cream machine. Or if you don't let it freeze all the way. Once it hits that 4-5 hour mark, it's going to have a firmer texture and not be soft serve.Â
As long as you store the ice cream in the freezer properly, it should stay fresh. We've brought back our favorite ice creams from our summer vacation and kept them in the bottom of a deep freezer for 6-8 months before eating them. They tasted just as good as fresh!
Yes, you do for the right texture. Alternatively, if you don't have an ice cream maker you can freeze the ice cream base in a popsicle mold for maple ice cream pops!
